Surreal Echoes of Reflection and Identity is a series that blurs the fragile boundary between dream and waking life. Each piece navigates the liminal space where water becomes both mirror and threshold, where skies fold into memory, and where the self fractures into multiple gazes.
The figures—often youthful, suspended in stillness—carry an uncanny tension between innocence and intensity. Their presence is both delicate and commanding, echoing the way memory holds onto fragments of childhood even as time reshapes them into symbols of resilience, fragility, and transformation.
Motifs repeat like visual refrains: red balloons, cherries, torn fabric, reflective pools, fractured masks. These objects do not simply decorate the scene; they are archetypes of longing, concealment, and revelation. The cracked sphere that doubles as a protective shell, the flower pressed tightly in a child’s hands, or the impossible mirrors that lead nowhere—all point to a deeper narrative about identity’s construction and dissolution.
Surrealism here is not ornamental but structural. It functions as a language to ask: What part of us is seen, and what part remains hidden? Where does reflection end and embodiment begin? The dreamlike distortions act as metaphors for the psychological landscapes we each carry, landscapes where memory, desire, and fear entwine.
Visually, the series sits at the intersection of painterly tradition and post-photographic technique. It draws upon the hyperreal surface detail of classical portraiture while embedding symbolic interventions that destabilize the viewer’s sense of time and place. The result is work that is as much about atmosphere as it is about subject—a mirror in which the audience may find their own uncanny reflection staring back.
This collection invites the viewer to linger in ambiguity, to embrace the unease of doubled perspectives, and to discover meaning not in certainty, but in the echo between what is seen and what is imagined.
